On 6 June 2009 my brother Paul (Skip) and I became proud owners of a 1942 Willys MB “Slat-Grill” Jeep. We call her “Mud Whistle”
While the Jeep had been “restored” to driveable, operating condintion, it had it’s shortcomings – and it’s new Amercian guise belied the true history and heritage of the Jeep. Not to mention it was rife with historical innacuracies.
We have set out to restore the Jeep as a British Airborne Jeep, as used by the Airlanding Brigades of the 1st and 6th Airborne Regiments during World War II. In addition to restoring the Jeep, we are launching a World War II British Airborne – Airlanding Unit of Historical Reenactors. This gives us the opportunity to put the Jeep through her paces, while honoring the men she once served… all while wielding machine guns.
This Blog will document the progress of our Jeep’s restoration, as we discover hidden secrets – and return her to glory, as well as the growth and development of our adjacent re-enacting group.
If you are interested in the Jeep, or in being a part of our organisation, please get in touch.
